Members of the community, elders, dignitaries and residential school survivors gathered at Edmonton Intercultural Centre for the Remembering the 7th National Truth and Reconciliation Gathering.
The Creating Hope Society has hosted this event to continue to put a spotlight on truth and reconciliation. It started off with a pipe ceremony and prayer before welcoming Delegates from across treaty 6.
Ranging from homelessness to the continued efforts of allyship, the keynote speakers brought many important topics to the table.
Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack joined CFWE to discuss the TRC and how to move forward.
The event had multiple sessions for people to learn including Karen Bruno’s ‘Journey to Reconciliation’ and Al Crawford’s ‘Finding Balance’.
Deborah Rose is the Director of the Aboriginal Seniors Centre in Edmonton and hopes events like this gives elders the opportunity for their voice to be heard.
Following the seminars, the event concluded with a Round Dance.
