An early morning motor vehicle accident in a south Edmonton neighbourhood of Hazeldean caused a power outage this morning .
At approximately 2 a.m. officers were called to a single-vehicle collision in the area of 99 Street and 69 Avenue according to an Edmonton police news release.
According to police, a 2019 Infinity was travelling north on 99 Street when the driver lost control and drove onto the east sidewalk crashing into a fence and damaging a wooden power pole which then caused a power outage to the community.
Northbound traffic was reduced to one lane for much of the morning as Epcor worked toward replacing the power pole and restoring service to the neighborhood. Southbound lanes have remained open but motorists were advised to avoid the area until further notice.
The driver was treated by emergency crews then transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to EPS.
The Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) was called upon to further investigate the collision.
Speed and impairment are believed to be factors in the crash.
