Police in Edson have issued warnings of a new scam circulating in the community, involving people physically impersonating police officers.
RCMP say a victim received a phone call from a number listed as RCMP, the caller would say they’re calling from the RCMP and the victim was going to be arrested for “Money Laundering”.
At the same time, two people dressed as RCMP officers arrived to the victims door asking if anyone called, the suspects said the victim would be arrested if they didn’t pay a fee.
The victim was told to empty their account to buy gift cards and present the information to the person over the phone.
Edson RCMP released a statement saying they’d never ask for a fee, gift cards or money in exchange for not getting arrested.
If anyone has information on this incident taking place at 4 Avenue, 63rd Street and 56 Street in Edson on November 3rd to contact Edson RCMP at 780-723-8822.
