Albertan’s dealt with one of the worst wildfire seasons over the past decade and according to some, it could burn throughout the winter months.
A hot May can be seen as the beginning of the season with thousands being forced out of their homes. The end of October does technically mark the end of the wildfire season but many will continue to burn past the month.
Right now, there are 87 wildfires burning across the province with one out of control.
Travis Fairweather is the Wildfire Information Officer with Alberta Forestry and Parks and says the province saw more land burn due to wildfires than any other year.
If any new fires begin in the fall/winter seasons, they’ll be caused by humans. Fairweather brought up some important tips for anyone starting a fire moving forward.
