With the rise of inflation across the province of Alberta, the Children’s Charity Kidsport is now seeing a huge spike in applications this year compared to previous years.
Kelly Oehlerking, executive director for Kidsport Alberta spoke with Windspeaker Radio Network about their increase of applications province wide, saying that they’ve seen a fifty percent increase in need of funding for families in the province.
In the city of Edmonton, Oehlerking says that last year, over two-thousand three hundred families applied for funding, which is now seeing a projection of increase in 2023.
In southern Alberta, Oehlerking speaks on the Kidsport Calgary location, which is expected to hit seven-thousand applicants for funding, compared to the five thousand from last year.
Oehlerking says that there are many factors that are in play for the rise of applications from across the province of Alberta, as she assures that Kidsport is there to support as many families as they can to get their kids off the sidelines and into their favorite sports.
